aaaaaaaaaaand now i have a beatles song in my head as well.
i really am tired of this. SO tired. its driving me crazy. what you ask? TOILET TRAINING. STILL. at 4.
wetting the bed at night is annoying, but i can deal with it. i just have to remember to wake him up sometime after 9:30 to go to the toilet. its wetting his pants during the day that bothers me.
he doesnt do it at preschool. he doesnt do it at grandma's house, or aunty's house. he doesnt do it if we're at the shops. he only does it at home. he sits there and wets his pants, and does nothing. or comes and tells me he's wet his pants. and then does nothing. just stands there. (he also does this if he needs to go - comes and tels me he needs to go, then just stands there instead of actually GOING. is it too late to swap him for a new one?) he doesnt need to tell me!! just go to the loo already!!
i just dont get it. why doesnt he go to the toilet? why does he wet his pants and do nothing? does he not realise until its too late? its driving me bonkers.
and i dont know what to do, how to help, how to get him doing things right.
and now im getting distracted because spaceghost is kicking the computer and it feels really weird.

my dear sweet child
a couple days ago i suddenly realised, in the midst of doing the dishes (we have a dishwasher in my house. her name is kaeus. actually we do have a dishwasher.. my dad bought it some 18 years ago and its never worked. until my son did something a couple months back and it started making noises. i dont know how to unplug it....), that my son had not made any noise for a few minutes. any-one with children knows this is cause for immediate alarm. what have they gotten into??
well i went searching through the house, rather worried, and was pleasantly surprised. he was in grandma's room, putting his pants in his laundry hamper. "i did wee-wees in toilet ALL myself!!" oh arent you just the cleverest little man in the.. what? how on EARTH did you manage to climb onto the toilet?
but he can. and has been ever since. today in the middle of breakfast he stood up and announced "i go do wee-wees in toilet all myself now" and since he hadnt done anything OTHER than that for a while.. i followed him just in case. "no no NO mummy you not following me! i go all myself!" ok darling.. i'll just wait outside the door. just in case. "ok. MUMMYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i do BIG POOOOOOOOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" and im glad i waited. cause he hasnt mastered the toilet paper yet. climbing onto the toilet, fine. FLUSHING the toilet, fine. he can even turn on the taps to wash his hands, although he hasnt grasped the concept of soap, or figured out how to turn the taps off.... but he cant understand toilet paper.
ah well. he's only three.

the workings of a toddlers mind
sit down and eat please "but mummy, i cant sit" SIT. DOWN. "i cant sit mummy!"
he says this to me AS HE IS IN THE PROCESS OF SITTING DOWN. yes you CAN sit, you are sitting down right now!!
what does he think he is saying to me? i dont want to?
on a toddler related note, im really not sure how to continue with the toilet training.
~~~~~~~~~TMI post to follow!!~~~~~~~~~
unless he has a severely upset stomach (i am SO not letting him eat more than 1 dried apricot a day, ever ever again. it was bad) and it just.. leaks... he invariably tells me before he has to poo. he says hes already done it, but he's still getting his talking straight. so off we go to the toilet, and depending on how urgent he seems, i either put him straight on the toilet seat, or take a minute to put his very own special toddler sized seat on. then he goes, all is well, we have a happy boy, and the day can continue. other than fruit induced stomach upsets, ive only had ONE pair of pooey pants in the past couple months. this is good!!!
what im not sure about it is how to deal with the wee side of things. "i needa do wee mummy!" no you dont, you just did it all over the floor. admittedly, its not as messy as if he had it the other way round, but its still annoying, and i just dont know what to do. he's getting better, and that extreme happens very rarely now. usually he just does a little wee, then off we go to the toilet. and by little, i mean a wet patch the size of his palm, or smaller, in his underpants ("i YUV bloo onda-pans mummy!") and occasionally through to his trousers. but how do i get it from a small wee, then off to the toilet, all the way to NOTHING, just asking to go to the toilet? is he simply unaware of whats happening till hes already started? i just dont know what to do. do i keep asking him every half hour if he needs to go, and hope he understands? do i let him run around completely naked from the waist down? do i put the wet underwear back on him so he sees how uncomfortable it is and is more motivated to do things 'properly'? im lost here.
~~~~~~~ end TMI ~~~~~~~
and on ANOTHER toddler related note, i bet you didnt know youve been singing the alphabet wrong for all these years.
A B C D E F G, H I K K L..P. Q R S, T U V, W X, Y and Z. now my my my A B C, nextime wone joo sing wivme.
i think hes doing pretty well considering his only words till the age of about 2 were "hi" and "mamamamamamamamamamamama". i cannot convince him that the first K is actually J, and he cannot grasp L-M-N-O-P, just says L..P rather quickly, but hes out of the infinite loop (ABCDEFG, HIJKLMNOP. QRS, TUV, WX, Y&Z, now i know my ABCDEFG, HIJKLMNOP... etc etc ad infinitum) and he actually says ZED instead of ZEE. he hasnt been corrupted by all the american TV yet. and his timing is almost perfect. other than L..P. hes pretty much grasped the tune, too. my clever, clever critter.
he can also sing twinkle twinkle, most of insy-winsy-spider, and parts of bob the builder theme song. i am so PROUD. edit: also row, row, row your boat. and brush, brush, brush your hair. dont ask.

ICK
toilet training is messy. especially when the toddler in question has an upset stomach.
i am not getting enough sleep. kid keeps waking up at night. i have NO IDEA why. he whimpers/cries till i go and tell him to be quiet, at which point he falls asleep again. then he wakes up a few hours later, lather rinse repeat. and no daytime naps so i cant recharge during te day either. ugh. are the Scary Things getting to him now? is he having nghtmares? is he cold? does his tummy hurt? he wont talk to me. just whimpers and falls asleep. but he keeps waking up again GRRRRRRRR! im living in a fog. and its not helping the sad/pain either being this tired. i dont know how my husband deals with me.
on the upside, hes getting pretty good at puzzles and stuff. nad his speech is clearing up. still a bit babbly, but better. now if only he would sleep.....
